Universities are not factories

Mandatory work hours may make a person sitting on the campus with an intelligent brain doing all sorts of power games and no productive work as there may not be proper space and privacy to work intellectually. To really make our universities and colleges to match world class high standards, we need facilities and ambience to attract intellectuals stay on the campus to work. The discrimination policy between university and college teachers has to be omitted/ changed. Equal service conditions and respectable designations must be given to all worthy teachers working in colleges of remote areas also. Flexible (not fixed five hours) working hours are need of the day for students also. The fixed hour presence is not the way to control academia. The answer of the big question is value system and more important healthy competition what our Hon'ble Minister is looking for by giving incentives. (Provided one is sure of a fair play!)I would like to share an instance: few years back, I saw a professor teaching us at 9 p.m. while we were there only for a refresher course. I asked him "why?" and it is anybody's guess in fraternity what he said," This is National Law School. The question of survival inspires us all through 24 hours." There was video recording on through the lectures of a newly recruited teacher to be evaluated later. Brains and bodies cannot be weighed in the same scale. A poem may be written in ten minutes but can anyone calculate how much labor and suffering has gone into the final product!
